Aluminium extrusion frequently asked questions:

Aluminium extrusion is used across a variety of industries such as commercial & architecture, marine, transport, leisure, recreation, and general manufacturing. Aluminium has a high strength-to-weight ratio, malleable, making it is easy to cast and form into a range of standard or custom shapes.

Aluminium extrusion profiles, otherwise known as extruded aluminium profiles, are lengths that come in various shapes and sizes formed into what is known as aluminium extrusions after undergoing the aluminium extrusion process. BlueScope Distribution offers a range of standard extrusion profiles including transport, marine, building systems, sun control, façade, canopy standards as well as standard geometrics, including flat bars, square bars, round bars, tee bar, hexagonal bar, angle, channel, round tube, oval tube, square hollow, rectangular hollow, H beam, I beam, Z sections. We also offer custom-made aluminium extrusion profiles that are tailored to your specific industry requirements and needs.

BlueScope Distribution are an independent distributor of aluminium extruded products aligned with both domestic and international extrusion mills to meet your demands from the very small, to very large extrusion profiles. Our team have the capability to identify standards and where custom solutions are required, we have the expertise to facilitate on your requirements. Our expertise extends across various industries including transport, marine and commercial & architectural and leisure & recreation.

Most of the Australian consumption of extruded profiles utilise 6000 series aluminium alloys. 6000 series aluminium extrusion alloys include 6060, 6063, 6106, 6005, 6061, 6351 and 6082. 6000 series alloys are suitable for both architectural and structural applications whereby the strength, shape complexity and aesthetics vary between alloy. Aluminium extrusion alloys in the 6000 series are versatile and suitable for welding and industrial applications, offering good corrosion resistance and formability.
