Working with our customers on a sustainable future

BlueScope Distribution is one of BlueScope’s downstream businesses in Australia. As such, we are committed to a local and global approach to Sustainability. We recognise that our journey towards a sustainable future is strengthened by the partnerships we build with our customers, suppliers, employees and the broader industries in which we operate.

We work closely with our suppliers to ensure that the products we procure are sourced in a responsible way.

  • Elements of our procurement policy highlight the importance we place on the health and safety of all those involved in their manufacture and transportation.
  • Require to comply with applicable modern slavery legislations in our relationships with our suppliers.

Our objective is to work closely with our customers to:

  • Ensure we are supplying products which meet quality and building standards.
  • BlueScope Distribution can provide customers with available EPDs and other relevant certifications to help our customers optimise the sustainability rating of their next project.
  • Provide information to our customers about the tools and resources available to help them be more successful in communicating their own sustainability goal.

Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) FAQ

An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a third party verified and registered document that communicates transparent data and other relevant environmental information about the life-cycle environmental impacts of a product.

BlueScope’s EPDs are expressions of their strong commitment to environmental transparency and reflect our focus on product stewardship and broader commitment to sustainability. Unlike industry-average EPDs, all BlueScope’s EPDs provide information that is specific to our products.

BlueScope EPDs can be used to help support upfront and whole of life assessments for end uses such as buildings, infrastructure and their components, as well as everyday materials.

When tendering for work, builders, manufacturers, and other industry partners may be asked to comply with or specify the carbon intensity of the structure they are building or producing. EPD’s provide transparent information to enable businesses tendering for this work to easily understand the carbon intensity of the steel being procured as part of the manufacturing or building process.

When companies have transparent information, they are able to make informed decisions about the products they procure and optimise their chances of being successful to win the work being tendered for.
